This book is an extract of the author’s Ph.D. thesis entitled “A Critical Analysis of Customary Rites and Ceremonies of Meiteis in the Light of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955”. There are a few literatures which deal with customary rites and ceremonies of Meitei marriage. The author finds that such literatures would not be able to avoid variations of judicial pronouncements in this matter because these literatures have never attempted to testify the legal validity of the custom. The present book is an examination of the Meitei customary marriage ceremony and its juristic importance in the light of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
