This book is about the changing character of forest laws and of livelihood of the forest dwelling tribal people in India. It analyses the impact of a number of interventions of forest laws in tribal areas. It reviews, in particular, various forest laws adopted by the British colonial government as well as the government of Independent India regarding forests and the tribals and how the judicial pronouncement paved the way for a balance between forest law and the rights of the tribals.
